Singapore Airlines enjoyed a good news run in July, which saw it cracking the top five company rankings by Singapore news sources for this first time this year.
While the company is frequently mentioned in the international press and is a common sight in the top five companies ranked by global news sources, this isn't the case locally. This time, Singapore Airlines entered in fifth place in the local news ranking with 33 accumulated mentions in the media to the end of July. The company was helped in part by its month-on-month increase in stories, which saw 12 stories in July's local media as compared to four in June. This translated to a 200% relative increase.
The airline did even better international news mentions-wise. While it only registered a 65% relative month-on-month increase in stories (from 26 in June to 43 in July), that warranted a return to the rankings for the company after it was displaced from its fifth place by MobileOne in June. This time it bumped UOB out from the rankings jumped a few notches to rank second, with total accumulated global news mentions to July standing at 127.
Newsworthy events about the company in July included its auction of seats on its inaugural A380 return flight to Sydney with proceeds to be donated to charities, its best airline of the year win in an international consumer survey, and the company's review of its stake in Virgin Atlantic.
So far, the top five companies in terms of local new sources are CapitaLand, DBS, SingTel and UOB, with Singapore Airlines and MobileOne tying for fifth place. Global news sources show CapitaLand, Singapore Airlines, DBS, SingTel and MobileOne making up the top five.
