Hong Kong -The Commercial Press has tapped on Google's Book Search Partner Programme adding over 100 of its story books, reference books, leisure and culture-related titles in cyberspace to become the first local Chinese-language books partner in Hong Kong.

"We are pleased to partner with Google in the online book search platform which further broadens our readership worldwide," Steven Luk, MD and GM, The Commercial Press (HK) Ltd said.

"Google Book Search benefits readers, publishers and authors.  It helps users find book information that is scattered across the globe, and offers publishers and authors a new marketing channel to reach out to worldwide users at no additional cost. We plan to work hand-in-hand with more local publishers to achieve our goal of digitizing and making accessible the world's books," Rebecca Kuei, head of sales for Google Hong Kong and Taiwan said.

The Google Book Search Partner Programme is an online book marketing initiative that provides a free platform for publishers and authors to expand their readership base to users worldwide. There are currently over 10, 000 international publishers such as Oxford University Press and Cambridge University Press joining the programme.

In Hong Kong, the key focus of the Google Book Search Partner Program is to develop partnerships with local publishers to increase the number of Chinese language books available through Google Book Search, which is available in simplified and traditional Chinese.
