Singapore - Young Singaporeans have some of the highest rates of electronic item ownership in the region, according to the inaugural Young Asians survey by market intelligence company Synovate.
"With the highest rates of ownership of mobile phones, TV game consoles and digital video cameras as well as the highest use of interactive communications when online, Singapore's youth lead the way when it comes to digital technology," said Steve Garton, Director of Media Research Asia Pacific, Synovate.
Out of the 820 Singaporeans surveyed, the results showed that 80% of Singapore youths own a mobile phone, half of which have Internet access on the device. 13% own a TV game console, 32% own a VCD player and 12% own a digital video camera -- all of which are the highest percentages among the eight countries surveyed -- Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines and India.
Results of the survey also revealed Singaporean youths' favourite brand names, such as McDonald's for fast food, Coca Cola for soft drinks, Nokia for mobile phones and Nike for sports shoes categories.
Synovate surveyed a total of 7,298 youths from the eight countries aged eight to 24, fielding them questions on their leisure habits, media and brand attitudes, use of the Internet, income, expenditure and their dreams and aspirations.
