Singapore - Yahoo is the top choice for advertisers, as revealed in Online Media of the Year 2007, a study commissioned by Marketing magazine.

In what was a very tight match, Yahoo beat off Google for the title by as little as 136 points scored overall in the three categories of Search / General News, Business and Finance, and IT News.

However Google got one up over on rival Yahoo in the Search / General News category, by being consistently ranked by majority of respondents to be the 1st search / general news site they would choose to advertise on. 104 agency-side respondents ranked Google 1st while 34 ranked it 2nd and 180 client-side respondents ranked it 1st while 71 ranked it 2nd.

Beating off stiff competition from contenders SPH AsiaOne, CNN, Yahoo and Business Times Online, Channel News Asia (CNA) claimed top honours in the Business and Finance category - receiving 72.9% of 1st votes in the category.

Not surprisingly, Hardwarezone.com and Cnet.com went toe to toe in the IT News section with the former claiming the spoils. Interestingly, the site enjoyed a stronger local than foreign base, garnering 62 votes from respondents from companies of local origin against 54 votes from respondents from companies of foreign origin.

The survey was carried out by BDMI Intelligence and involved 1,189 valid responses from marketing and advertising decision makers in Singapore.
