Malaysia - New York-based Hearst Magazines and Australian Consolidated Press (ACP) are launching a Malaysia edition of young women’s title Cosmopolitan, making this the first international magazine title to be published in Bahasa Malaysia in the country. Cosmopolitan Malaysia will be targeted at the educated, urban-oriented 22 to 35 year old Malay woman with "growing purchasing power". “Our research into a range of demographics in Malaysia combined with comments from our existing advertiser base strongly suggests there is an emerging market of young Malay women very much in touch with their traditions but with higher expectations of their lives,” said Julie Sherborn, Managing Director, ACP. “Cosmopolitan will deliver to this audience contemporary information, explanation and guidance in the language they feel most comfortable using.” The Cosmopolitan brand, known for its upbeat style, focus on the young career woman and candid discussion of contemporary relationships, is published in 56 editions in 33 languages globally. Recruitment for Kuala Lumpur-based sales and editorial staff is currently underway in preparation for the launch, slated for the final quarter of this year. The joint venture between Hearst and ACP already sees the two publishing Australian editions of Cosmopolitan, Harper's Bazaar and Madison, the New Zealand edition of SHE, the Singapore and Malaysia editions of Harper's Bazaar, and UK weeklies Best and Reveal. In Malaysia, ACP Asia also publishes Cleo and The Malaysian Women's Weekly as well as Harper's Bazaar with Hearst.
