  • Friendster and Yahoo SE Asia in strategic tie up
  • Cross promotion of products and services on web properties already seen
  • Initiatives to further integrate both platforms launch early 2010

Regional - Internet giants, Friendster and Yahoo SE Asia have formed a multi-year strategic partnership which will see the launch of integrated product features and promotional initiatives across both web properties.

A new Friendster application can already be seen on Yahoo in SE Asia while Yahoo graphical and text-based promotional placements for its products and services are now live on Friendster.com.

The roll out of the Friendster Application for Yahoo's homepage and the Yahoo Toolbar is currently for Singapore, Indonesia, and the Philippines while Malaysia will get it in the coming weeks.

The other major components of the deal launch in "early 2010" according to Friendster, and will include customised Friendster search results on Yahoo as well as the ability to publish Friendster updates in Yahoo accounts.

"This is a major milestone in the Yahoo Open Strategy, our combined services will enrich the online environment allowing people to get more done faster and in a single place," Ken Mandel, vice president and managing director for Yahoo SE Asia, said.

Friendster said 90% of its daily traffic from over 90 million registered users comes from SE Asia.

The announcement by Friendster comes just one month after being acquired by Malaysia's MOL Global.
