Dow Jones expansion across Asia continues
Japan - The Wall Street Journal will launch its second major Asian-language site from mid-December with the roll out of a Japanese-language portal in the region.
The site, set to launch on 15 December, is operated by Wall Street Journal Japan K.K., a joint venture between Dow Jones & Company and SBI Holdings.
The site will primarily feature Japanese translations of content, including video and other multimedia content from all print and online editions of The Wall Street Journal and other Dow Jones publications.
The Japanese-language site is the WSJ's second Asian-language site after the Chinese-language site, Chinese.WSJ.com, launched in 2002.
Data from iwebChoice.com/iresearch.cn shows its Chinese portal now has more than 600,000 registered users and is the only foreign website to rank 6th in the top 10 business and finance sites in China.
Since News Corp acquired Dow Jones in 2007, the company’s regional investments and initiatives have also included expansion of its Japanese Language Services Newswires coverage, adding more emerging market news to existing services covering international equities, and expanding distribution and content licensing agreements.
Other initiatives have included doubling in size of Dow Jones’s India news bureau, with plans to double investment in the company’s Indian operation in each of the next two years and the printing of The Wall Street Journal Asia in India.
