UPS employees contribute to community
Singapore - More than 210 UPS employees, along with their families, contributed a total of 1,048 hours to various charity movements in Singapore as part of this month's 7th annual "Global Volunteer Month".
While UPS employees and their families worldwide have donated almost 15,000 volunteer hours up to date, the company aims to mobilise over 4,000 employees to volunteer over 18,000 hours to their local communities in Asia.
In one Global Volunteer Month activity in Singapore, UPS volunteers reached out to needy children from the Sunbeam Place, spending one afternoon painting dustbins with them. In another activity, UPS invited disadvantaged children from the Touch Community to tour the company's facilities and watch its operations in action.
Additionally, UPS Singapore volunteers also spent a weekend with residents from Bishan Home for the Intellectually Disabled, participating in games with them at MacRitchie Reservoir Park. The company even provided financial contributions to charity organisations including a S$38,000 (S$52,677) grant to The Lions Home for the purchase of washing machines and dryers for the elderly residents.
To further encourage worldwide employee participation this year, The UPS Foundation has decided to donate US$100,000 (S$138,630) through an employee contest. Ten UPS employees would be picked to win a US$10,000 (S$13,863) charitable contribution for the nonprofit agencies at which they volunteer during Global Volunteer Month.
"Volunteerism is something that binds us together as a company and makes us stronger," said Scott Davis, chairman and CEO of UPS. "I firmly believe that people prefer to do business with, and work for, companies that act responsibly and care about the communities they serve."
