YAHOO!     RECRUITMENT     LEADERSHIP

Singapore - Yahoo! CEO Carol Bartz is confident of taking the firm's operating margin growth to 15% to 20% in the next three years with plans to hire in Asia, particularly India.

Speaking at today's luncheon organised by the American Chamber of Commerce in Singapore, Bartz says the Internet firm is focused on growing its businesses in the region, India especially and there are intentions to hire. "We plan to hire more people and take on more partners."

Describing the company's current 6% operating margins as "terrible", Bartz plans to target growth in developing markets such as Indonesia and Vietnam. However, she does not foresee any people retention challenges ahead. "There are no special challenges in the next few months. Businesses don't change that dramatically in that few months," says Bartz. "It's just about running a good business and satisfying our users."

In any case, she has grown accustomed to the challenges she has had to face over the last year since taking charge of the Internet firm. "Being a public CEO for so many years now, you have to take the good with the bad," Bartz says. "Trust me, the good news is when the good comes, everybody kind of forgets that you have anything to do with it [bad financial results]."

Regardless, she believes the growth strategies she has implemented for Yahoo! so far has been sound. "If I had any impediment to my strategy, they ought to shoot me. That would mean that I don't know."

As for her leadership style, Bartz says that's a topic that has "plenty" for her to talk about. But in short, her strategy to lead Yahoo! is simple. "You cannot rest on your laurels."
