Singapore - The Straits Times has picked up two awards at the Society of Publishers in Asia (SOPA) 2007 Awards for Editorial Excellence - one for Excellence in Feature Writing, and one for Excellence in Editorial Cartooning.

The Group B win for Excellence in Feature Writing was for its article titled The Hospice Care, which SOPA described in a statement as "a deeply moving, unflinching up-close look at people facing the end of life and those who help them". The other award was for Excellence in Editorial Cartooning for its illustrations titled Taiwan Politics All About Identity.

The biggest winners at this year's SOPA Awards were The Standard, with four awards, followed by Time Asia, Financial Times, and South China Morning Post, all with three awards.

The SOPA Awards were established in 1999 as a tribute to editorial excellence in both traditional and new media, also aimed at encouraging "editorial vitality" throughout the region.
