P1 draws flak for "Potong" reference
P1 CREATIVE JUICE\SIL ADVERTISING
- P1 campaign draws flak from Chinese Assembly Hall Wanita chief Alice Lee
- Creative Juice\Sil reacts positvely
- Second wave of ads to come
Malaysia – P1's "Potong" or "cut" campaign has drawn flak from Chinese Assembly Hall Wanita chief Alice Lee for its circumcision suggesting creative but the criticism has been greeted positively by its creators Creative Juice\Sil.
Recent media reports said Lee was urging the company to retract the advertisement because it made women feel uncomfortable. But Saad Hussein, who is MD and executive creative director of Creative Juice\Sil, tells A+M the publicity "is a good thing because now we know for sure people are noticing the ads."
"We wanted to make it simple, and we had all the approvals from the necessary parties... and so far we have gotten positive feedback from everyone," he said.
"We can’t control your thoughts, and there is nothing we can do if your interpretation is different," he added.
The campaign ran on print media and on TV and is part of P1's push to market its WiMax service - "Cut the Wires, Cut the Charges, Cut the Lag."
A P1 spokesperson said the idea was not to create any controversy with the campaign but "there is no denying" it is "enjoying a lot of attention from all quarters."
"Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and we respect that," he said.
The "Potong" campaign creatives end on Friday to give way to a second wave of ads.
