Kancils 2009 wraps

Malaysia – Leo Burnett dominated proceedings at last weekend's Kancil Awards walking away with Agency of the Year while the awards also honoured the agency's late ECD Yasmin Ahmad with a tribute video.
LB was one of only two agencies who won a Golden Kancil, winning the accolade for its "Funeral" TVC done for the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS) Singapore. The film was directed by Yasmin Ahmad.
The other Golden Kancil Award went to digital marketing agency IF/Interactive for client KL Design Week 2009.
Gold winners on the night included Leo Burnett, IF /Interactive, McCann Erickson, and Ogilvy. Although McCann Erickson's Gold Kancil winning work, won for craft in Art Direction in the Print / Poster / Point of Sale category, was only used internally by the French Culinary School in Asia according to the client.
At press time, McCann Erickson could not confirm this.
Jury chairman, SP Lee said he alone could not comment on the decision to award a Golden Kancil for a campaign which bought no media - as "it was a decision made by all the judges."
However, he did describe the work as being "quite slick and good."
Advertiser of the Year was won by Singapore’s MCYS while the Chairman’s Award was awarded to Ho Kay Tat from The Edge Communications. Best young creatives were awarded to Naga DDB/Rapp's Davina Chan and Danny Chin.
Leo Burnett's recent win at the Effie for its "Earth Hour Malaysia 2009" also won the bronze at the Kancils 2009.
