ESPNEWS to hit Singapore next month
Regional - ESPNEWS, ESPN Star Sports' (ESS) new regional 24-hour news channel, will launch in Singapore on mio TV in November followed by Malaysia and several other markets.
ESPNEWS is already available in countries such as Mynanmar and The Phillipines, and in Cambodia its test signal is currently running. ESS is confident that the new channel, which was less than six months in the planning, will be a success.
The launch of ESPNEWS is a defining moment in our company's history and a huge step forward for our business," Manu Sawhney, managing director of ESS, told Marketing.
"It is a demonstration of our commitment to serving the sports fans and their changing needs as well as our ongoing commitment to delivering the most innovative and compelling sports content to Asia across creative platforms."
ESS said ESPNEWS was created based on its continuous tracking of sports fans across the region and their appetite for sport and sports news from around the world. The channel's layout will feature four main data streams including a video window carrying sports action and highlights, a bottom line graphic streaming results and fixtures, a top line graphic with a continuous update of news and a sideline graphic with standings, rankings and statistics.
ESPNEWS will launch with an English voice-over but will be available in Cantonese and Bahasa Melayu at a later date.
Sawhney told Marketing that the channel will target a variety of advertisers - from technology, electronics, telco and IT brands to those companies which are aimed at business executives and general sports fans.
"I believe there are several different types of advertisers who will be interested in advertising on our latest channel," Sawhney said.
"The innovative format of ESPNEWS presents customizable advertising space and opens up new branding and sponsorship placements opportunities for advertisers. I think the order of the day is really to reach out to advertisers who want a creative solution that delivers a quality audience and this is what ESPNEWS promises to be."
