Beijing - Google has committed RMB50 million to the SMB sector in China to encourage local enterprises to use its AdWords platform.

The SMB sector represents a major economic pillar of China.

Statistics from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the PRC show there are between 20 to 40 million of them in China that offers 80% of all job opportunities in the country.

With the internet growing at high speed, businesses can now tap on its efficiency and cost effectiveness by using search engine marketing (SEM) to quickly expand into the global market.

Google's stimulus program will see the company provide RMB500 to every new registered customer of AdWords to help them start their SEM.

John Liu, vice president for Google, said the program is in response to the company's pledge to the State Council to provide support in funding the development of SMBs in the country.

He said the global economy is in a critical turning period with the original economic landscape, business models and marketing methods about to go through revolutionary changes.

"It is our hope that, by launching the RMB50 million stimulus program, those enterprises that are totally new to SEM will have the opportunities and money to try it and leverage its power to grow their businesses quickly,"he added.

According to iResearch's 2008 report, Google's market share represents close to 30% in China.
