Nokia calls out for local relevancy

Malaysia - Nokia, at its OneConnectedWorld event in Kuala Lumpur, announced it has collaborated with FJ Benjamin to launch a widget for consumers to interact with major fashion brands in Asia.

Called Fashion Asia, the widget gives Nokia Symbian touch device users direct access to fashion brands and includes weekly style tips from Harper's Bazaar and Cleo as well as an A-GPS and Ovi Maps integrated Store Locator.

Other functionalities of the widget include the ability to view updated brand collections every month and an option to upload and share personal fashion looks.

"Ideas and innovation come from all over the world and while Nokia has a global developer ecosystem in place, we strongly believe in investing in local collaborations and working closely with developers to bring relevant content and applications to consumers," Vlasta Berka, General Manager Singapore/Malaysia & Brunei said.

It was at the OneConnectedWorld forum where Nokia also outlined the importance of establishing local collaborations and creating locally relevant content and applications across the region - and further build on its Ovi platform.

"By collaborating with publishers and developers to create an ecosystem that drives innovation, we can create rich user experiences for consumers and greater opportunities for the mobile ecosystem," Miikka Nevasalo, head of Forum Nokia, Asia, said.

Nokia has announced collaborations with the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) and Cradle Fund to help local developers commercialise their ideas.

The Fashion Asia widget will ship pre-installed with the new Nokia N97 mini, and is also available for download from Ovi Store for Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand initially.

Devices compatible with the Fashion Asia widget currently include the Nokia N97, Nokia N97 mini, the Nokia X6, Nokia 5530XpressMusic, Nokia 5230 and Nokia 5800 XpressMusic.
