CNN gives the Go ahead to cultural voyeurs
The six cities will include Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore, Bangkok, Tokyo and Mumbai.
While the travel market is already well catered for with travel brands like Lonely Planet and Time Out, CNN Go's editor in chief Andrew Demaria said there's nothing that brings together the best of those products from business to pleasure in one spot.
With the blogging trend becoming more popular in the region, CNN Go aims to expose bloggers, talented artists and developers that have a finger on the pulse of these cities and inspire them to share their unique insights on a regular basis that will reach out to readers globally.
Kim Willis, general manager for CNN Go added that they want to keep the tone and voice of the site "from the inside out".
While the broadcaster has been getting a lot of criticism for looking at the world through America's eyes, this is an ambitious project that aims to show the Asian cities from the eyes and perspectives of those who live in it.
The site will initially roll out in English language but will be available in other Asian languages such as Chinese and Japanese in the next month to a year after launch.
A mobile version of the site is also in the works including making it compatible with other social media networking sites.
