Leading dailies in Maxis mobile tie-up
- Maxis enters into a mobile content arrangement with three leading dailies
- For Utusan Malaysia, Sin Chew Daily, and The Star readers
- Get free access to mobile content via Maxis until 31 October
Malaysia - Maxis is allowing readers of Utusan Malaysia, Sin Chew Daily and The Star to have free access to news via the mobile internet on its network until 31 October 2009.
The news was announced yesterday in a joint statement by the three leading dailies, Maxis and project manager, Aegis Media.
"The synergy of this service to readers of these newspapers, to be enabled by Maxis, brings with ease, access to content. A role we salute the dailies and the telco for reaching out to all communities in the three main languages," Margaret Lim, executive chairman for Aegis Media Malaysia said.
The free access is only until the 31 October and after that readers of the three major dailies on the Maxis network will have to pay for the service. The mobile news portals can be accessed at the Sinchew-i WAP site, The Star Mobile site, and Utusan Malaysia.
According to Suruhanjaya Komunikasi dan Multimedia Malaysia (Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission), as of Q2/2009, there are 28.545 million ‘cellular' (mobile telephone) subscriptions registered.
"This partnership between Maxis and leading media partners in the country will enable mobile data usage to become even more ubiquitous among Malaysians," Matthew Willsher, chief marketing officer for Maxis said.
