Hong Kong - The MTR Corporation has appointed Digital Media Group (DMG) as sole operator for its in-train TV programs and advertisements on the Ktt through train line between Hung Hom, Hong Kong to Guangzhou.

DMG won the project following a tender and the contract will be valid until March 2012.

The outdoor media company has started the rollout plan on the Ktt train early this month to provide and manage in train TV programming.

It will update the in train information system and replace existing display screens with multimedia systems in November this year.

Wilkins Wong, marketing and operation manager for DMG, said every compartment of the Ktt train will be equipped with 16:9 LCD screens in future to replace the existing smaller CRT screens.

He said the company will also use the latest 3G mobile telecommunication technologies that will enable a higher frequency of programming updates to broadcast in train TV programs. The train currently plays its programs via DVDs.

Wong said they would enhance the program offering to include entertainment, fashion, news, travel and leisure information.

Some of the content would be produced in house and the rest are going to be syndicated from China Entertainment TV, National Geographic Channels as well as other overseas content providers.

Additionally, DMG hopes to woo marketers from the Mainland and Hong Kong to advertise on its in-train TV with the Singapore Grand Prix signed up as its first advertiser.

DMG has been partnering with MTR on Hong Kong's Airport Express since 2006 and Beijing's Metro Line 4 that will officially launch in October this year.
