Singapore - SingTel has officially launched AMPed, a new interactive music service for the telco's mobile customers which offers unlimited downloads in partnership with Universal Music Group (UMG).

SingTel claims its the first of its kind in Asia and goes beyond offering unlimited music downloads, with AMPed customers given free access to music videos, the latest entertainment news and gossip and pre-album releases.

The multi-platform service will be available on a wide range of 3G handsets and will be offered at no additional cost on selected mobile plans. Consumers can browse and download songs without being hit with any additional data charges.

"SingTel, with Universal Music Group, will take our customers' mobile music experience to unprecedented heights with AMPed," Allen Lew, SingTel's CEO Singapore, said.

"AMPed is another demonstration of SingTel's transformation into a multimedia solutions company and how we are constantly developing new and innovative solutions that are relevant to our customers' needs."

The music service is the latest in SingTel's new developments, closely following the launch of advertising arm iMedia and website inSing.com.

AMPed also offers a chat function as well as album reviews, with direct links to social networking sites. Customers can upload reviews and comments instantly - linking their news to social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. AMPed will compete with mobile music download services such as Nokia's Comes with Music.
