Edison Chen's online appeal strikes again
Hong Kong - Edison Chen's picturegate scandal may have forced him into exile in 2008, but it seems his appeal among Chinese netizens has not waned, at all.
On Wednesday 3 June CNN's Talk Asia aired its exclusive interview with the Canadian-born Hong Kong bad boy about his role in what is arguably Asia's biggest sex scandals.
The following day the program aired on Chinese news portal Sina.com where viewer numbers exploded.
Since the first broadcast of Talk Asia, the Edison Chen program on Sina pulled in total view count of close to eight million.
The scandal, involving hundreds of sexually explicit photos of Chen with other Hong Kong celebrities, has since proved to be a great media story.
Ringo Chan, vice president, wireless, interactive content development & distribution at Turner International Asia Pacific, said working with Sina.com was a "resounding success" and an endorsement of CNN's strategy to take content beyond traditional platforms.
"We're also delighted at the viewing figures that enabled Talk Asia to reach an audience whose native language is not English," he added.
