Carey returns to News Corp
- Carey appointed as News Corp deputy chairman

Global - Chase Carey, who previously spent 15 years with News Corporation before leaving for DirecTV in 2003, has returned to the media giant in the role of deputy chairman, president and chief operating officer.
Carey is replacing the long serving Peter Chernin who steps down as chairman and Rupert Murdoch's right hand man at the end of the month. Carey will oversee News Corp's global operations from the New York office when he takes up the new role on 1 July 1.
Like most media groups, News Corp has been hit hard by the recession and drops in ad revenue for newspapers in many countries around the globe. Rupert Murdoch recently announced plans to charge News Corp readers for online news content. In a subsequent Marketing poll, our readers were almost unanimously against the concept.
