Jet Airways to show staff the door
India - Private carrier Jet Airways said it will retrench staff and has set up an outplacement facility to help retrenched employees find a job.
The Indian carrier said dipping demand following the financial crisis has left the airline considering retrenchment as an option.
Media reports suggest the airline had already let 50 staff go, but the airline neither confirmed nor gave any figures.
"We have created an outplacement cell to provide active assistance to the cabin crew desirous of seeking employment with other carriers and organisations in the service industry who are currently recruiting experienced staff. The organisation is proactively assisting the crew to apply to these organisations," the company said in a statement.
Jet Airways said it had implemented several measures to tide over the downturn, including a cost-restructuring exercise, withdrawal of operations on uneconomical routes and capacity downsizing on some international sectors. It has also implemented a recruitment and capital expenditure freeze, will cut executive perks and temporarily reduce management salaries.
