Asia outspends global average on travel
- Hong Kong the most vibrant city after Japan and Australia
- Recessions has not dampened travel plans

Asia Pacific - Hong Kong has defeated Japan and Australia as the most vibrant city, according to an online study conducted by CNN International.
The Online Consumer Survey shows 5,353 worldwide respondents, including 1,493 in Asia Pacific, chose Hong Kong as the most vibrant city, with Australia and Japan coming in second and third place.
While Japan and Thailand have the best nightlife, Singapore and China takes the top gongs for as shopping paradise.
Despite the staggering economy, almost 83% of Asia Pacific respondents said they will pack their bags to travel within next 12 months, having already splashed out US$4,000 on their last vacation, $300 more than the global average.
The study also shows the difference between choices of airlines and hotels between business travelers and vacation travelers. 83% of business travelers said they will choose different airlines and hotels when it comes to corporate travel.
"These results send a strong message to tourism boards that smart destination branding is critical for country differentiation and return on investment," William Hsu, vice president, advertising sales of CNN International, said.
