Microsoft staff cuts take effect
Published: May 11, 2009
Singapore - Microsoft has laid off a wave of staff in Singapore, following the company's decision in January to retrench 5000 jobs globally.
A spokesperson for Microsoft told Marketing that the staff cuts made in Singapore last week were part of the worldwide move, despite earlier statements that Singapore would be spared from the global cull.
The spokesperson declined to comment on how many local staff were retrenched, but Marketing can confirm that one of the unfortunate employees affected is Geert Desager, trade marketing manager for Southeast Asia.
The Microsoft spokesperson said more retrenchments could be made, as it "depends on the economic situation".
"It's hard to predict," the spokesperson said.
The lay offs are part of a global realignment and restructure of Microsoft's operations, which could see several roles and positions streamlined.
