Singapore - The Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA) has launched the Spearheading Publishing Innovation for New Enterprise scheme (SPINE), a new initiative aimed to encourage the growth and development of high-value and exportable publishing content with the potential for global distribution.

The scheme aims to help local companies in the development of their original publishing works into brands and franchises that live on multiple media platforms - print, online, TV, mobile/handheld devices or consumer products for global audiences. Under a call for proposals, the MDA is seeking submissions from publishing companies for projects with strong cross-media or cross-platform elements, aimed at international distribution and readership.

The MDA will co-invest, together with publishing companies and other industry partners in programmes that present opportunities for global reach and economic returns under a co-sharing of rights and revenues arrangement. The level of MDA's participation will be dependent on the scale, scope and merits of the submitted proposals.

To be eligible, all submissions must be received by 29 May 2009. More information on SPINE can be found at the website mda.gov.sg/spine.
