WSG boosts live AFC football coverage
- More live AFC action on offer
- Increase of 60%
- Teams competing for US$8 million
Singapore - World Sport Group (WSG) is boosting the amount of live AFC Champions League by 60% this season due to the newly revamped format of the region's top club competition.
The AFC matches will now be broadcast on cable and terrestrial networks in all major markets across the region including Australia (Fox Sports), China (CCTV 5 and terrestrial channels), Indonesia (TPI), Japan (TV Asahi), Korea (XSports and SBS), Singapore (StarHub) and the Middle East (ART and ASBU). The matches will also be available live on ESPN Star Sports and worldwide on http://www.the-afc.tv/
"In addition to the new format, this significant increase in broadcasters' demand for television coverage also reflects the growing popularity of the AFC Champions League across the region," Mark Hardess, president, ASEAN and Australia, World Sport Group, said.
"With wider coverage through both television and broadband, Asian football fans everywhere will be able to follow all the action live on television or online."
The AFC Champions League was first launched six years ago and it kicked off the 2009 season on 10 March with a new format. Thirty two clubs from Asia's leading footballing nations, including newcomers Singapore, will compete for a total prize of US$8 million.
