MediaCorp appoints NTUC's Yew as brand and communications lead

MediaCorp has appointed Karen Yew as Head, Brand and Communications, responsible for brand management, all communications including media relations, internal communications and government relations, as well as corporate social responsibility.Yew, in her new role will report to Shaun Seow, chief executive officer, MediaCorp.Prior to this, Yew was with NTUC Income, where, during a two-and-a-half year tenure, she was responsible for managing its reputation in line with its corporate character and values.She started her career in MediaCorp, then Singapore Broadcasting Corporation (SBC), as a producer, after studying on an SBC scholarship. Between 1993 and 2000, she took up various news and current affairs assignments and was part of Channel NewsAsia’s pioneering team.She also spent 12 years as a communicator in IBM, where she last held the position of Head, Brand and Communications, IBM ASEAN.  In that role she was responsible for protecting and enhancing the global company’s brand within the ASEAN region.Of the new appointment, Seow said: “Karen is rejoining MediaCorp at an exciting time, as we transform the organisation and connect with greater relevance with our audiences across diverse platforms. Karen is an addition to the management team that we are strengthening to take MediaCorp into the future, combining outstanding talent from within and outside the organisation.”Yew said: “I am fortunate to have the opportunity to return to MediaCorp in a new capacity that allows me to play an integral part in articulating MediaCorp’s essential role in society.  MediaCorp has a great story to tell, as a leading media company and national broadcaster over the last half of a century, and more importantly, as it continues to make its impact on the community and on business in Singapore and across Asia.”
