Media Prima hits RM2 bil mark

Malaysia - Media Prima has hit the RM2 billion revenue mark for the first time since incorporation despite having to brave a challenging operating environment last year.The group's Profit Before Taxation and Profit After Taxation and Minority Interest (PATAMI) were up by 2% at RM282.9 million and 1% at RM209.3 million respectively, compared to 2011.Its television networks saw a strong rebound and overall revenue for the year was boosted by non-traditional advertisers and increased spending by clients during the festive seasons.Continuous product improvement in print media for all products has resulted in revenue growth, especially in advertising revenue where a 9% Adex growth was registered driven by its strength in the mass Malay sector.Outdoor media Profit After Taxation increased by 4% against the previous corresponding period as a result of 6% revenue growth, with increased contributions from display rental and production revenue.Its radio networks strengthened share through the East Coast segment and in the Chinese market segment through OneFM, resulting in a higher revenue growth of 7%.According to chairman of Media Prima Datuk Johan Jaaffar (pictured centre), "Although 2012 proved to be a challenging year, we managed to maintain our leadership position by investing in quality and relevant content, a strategy that we will continue to pursue in 2013."In further strengthening the group's operational efficiency, it plans to include additional studios and workspaces as it continues to grow its content creation business.Group managing director of Media Prima Dato' Amrin Awaluddin (left) said that the group will continue with its efforts to expand revenue sources to complement traditional Adex from television and print.
