MEC names Peter Vogel as Asia CEO

Peter Vogel has taken on the role of CEO of MEC Asia Pacific, replacing Stephen Li, who left earlier this year to join OMD as CEO of its Asia Pacific operations.Vogel (pictured) will relocate from Sydney to Hong Kong for the role in the next few months.Vogel was last CEO of MEC Australia. He has been in the role for more than five years. Prior to that, he was also with MEC Asia Pacific and was based in Singapore holding the role of chief strategy officer. Altogether, Vogel has been with MEC for 12 years and has over 20 years of marketing, advertising and media experience.MEC global CEO Charles Courtier described Vogel as one of the industry’s most seasoned business leaders."He has done an amazing job for us as CEO of Australia over the past five and half years doubling the size of the agency and infusing it with a thriving culture."In his new role he’s intent on developing MEC’s framework in Asia Pacific to drive real change and growth in the region. I’m confident that he’s a leader with the right blend of strategic vision and business acumen to get us there.”Commenting on the appointment, Vogel said APAC was the growth engine of the global economy."This is not only an exciting opportunity, it’s also a big responsibility for all of us in the region; if APAC grows, MEC grows," he said."I’m relishing the challenge to create long-term sustainable growth for MEC. We have the talent, the passion and track record to succeed.”Since Peter joined MEC Australia five and a half years ago the agency has had notable new business successes such as Nestlé, Netflix, Domino’s Pizza, Allianz, Channel 7, Blackmores, South Australia Government, Combe, Menarini, RSPCA and Tiffany.He first broke into the agency working on the marketing team of Volkswagen and Audi. He then moved to the agency-side, joining Ogilvy Cape Town as a group business director.He also founded Nota Bene which was one of South Africa’s first media & communications strategy agency. A few years later Nota Bene was acquired by WPP and Peter took over as CEO of MEC & Nota Bene in South Africa.
