MCI creates new marketing office following reorganisation

Ministry of Communications and Information (MCI) has created a new marketing office which will be headed by Karen Tan, senior director at MCI Singapore.The new marketing office was formalised in January this year following structural changed undergone by MCI late last year. Currently, the office consists of a lean team of five and the unit will be coordinating government campaign efforts. The office will be looking at the overall branding of Singapore.“The office will look to level up government communication approaches and amplify our messaging to better inform, engage and influence members of the public,” Tan said in an exclusive statement to Marketing. She added that at regular intervals, various teams behind successful campaigns would also be asked to share their insights to improve the marketing and communication of government campaigns.Tan will be taking on the role in addition to her current portfolio which includes the strengthening of whole of government public communications, ensuring consistent messaging and building capacity in content development.Specifically, she is responsible for crisis communications for the government and leading government efforts in the planning and execution of key public communications initiatives, which includes new media engagement, public engagement and national marketing for Singapore. She has been with MCI since 2011 and prior to that she was with MOH for over 10 years.
