Lazada Malaysia has announced that it surpassed Lazada Singapore to become the fastest growing e-commerce platform. It has achieved over 100% growth sales for 2016, said an article by Bernama. When reached out to by A+M, a Lazada Malaysia spokesperson confirmed this news. The Bernama article quoted Hans-Peter Ressel, Lazada Malaysia’s CEO saying that the country’s e-commerce market is “well developed” as it is supported by efficient logistic facilities and international courier companies. Ressel also attributed this progress to the existence of payment methods such as cash on delivery and online payment. These have helped Malaysian customers shop conveniently and seamlessly on online platforms.Meanwhile, emphasising on the company's positive growth plans for 2017, he said that the company plans to triple the number of products sold on the platform to 30 million by the end of the year.Lazada Malaysia has also signed a deal with SME Corp Malaysia to bring an additional 25,000 merchants on to the platform in the couple of months. Highlighting the role the Malaysian government has played over the years, he said, it has been one of the most active and supportive governments in SEA.Ressel explained that the company has massively invested in optimising data technology and automation. This has been done to equip the online merchants with “world-class logistics solutions, marketing tools, content management, as well as end-to-end e-commerce services”.
