BBDO Malaysia has hired a new creative director, JY Lay (pictured left) to drive the agency's digital growth.A spokesperson from BBDO Malaysia told A+M in a statement that Lay, who is part of BBDO Group's Proximity alumni, was in the digital team with Proximity and was instrumental in some of the "controversial work" for Fonterra's “Semak Gula”. In his stint in Creative Juice, Lay was also working closely with Vijay Anand, the current BBDO's executive creative director. Prior to the role, Lay was an associate creative director in Creative Juice\TBWA.Lay brings in 13 years of experience from both mainstream and digital platforms. He has worked with other agencies such as, FCB and Saatchi & Saatchi Arachnid and was responsible for managing local and regional accounts including Maxis Hotlink, Celcom Xpax, Umobile, Unilever, Astro, BMW, McDonalds, KFC, Samsung, Microsoft, Honda, Nissan, Redbull and Energizer. In November last year, Lee Tak Shune (pictured right), who was also previously with Creative Juice as its creative group head also joined the agency. According to BBDO, Lee has worked with clients such as Nandos, Cornetto, Tesco, AirAsia and Mindvalley.“Really happy to be reunited with Lay and Shune - some of the guys I really enjoyed working with in my previous stint. They are the kind of guys who get us all excited to go to work everyday just to see what they cook up with the team. They are Yin and Yang of sorts. Total opposites who make magical work together with one being logic, and the other magic. I’m so excited about the kind of work we are gonna cook up here at BBDO,” said Anand.John Teoh, general manager of BBDO Malaysia added, “It’s fantastic to see Lay coming home to BBDO. More than just a great creative talent, he has amassed a wealth of experience and knowledge in digital which I believe will contribute immensely to our efforts in growing our digital offering. BBDO has always been a great place for creativity and I am confident that with Vijay, Lee and Lay’s creative leadership, BBDO Malaysia will continue to thrive and produce great work for all our clients. I would definitely watch this space!”BBDO has been beefing up its creative team in the last eight months, with the hiring of both senior and young creatives in the country. They include art director Chow Tatt Ho who joined from Leo Burnett Malaysia and art director Dafi Alfadila from Dentsu Indonesia  amongst others.
