Editors and publisher arrested over reporting on hudud law

The Malaysian Insider's managing editor Lionel Morais, chief executive Jahabar Sadiq, Bahasa news editor Amin Iskandar, features and analysis editor Zulkifli Sulong and The Edge publisher Ho Kay Tat have all been arrested under the Sedition Act.The arrests came following articles reporting on the hudud law, or Islamic Criminal law.The five arrests are over a report published on The Malaysian Insider on March 25 which said the Conference of Rulers had rejected a proposal to amend a federal law that would pave the way for hudud to be enforced in Kelantan, said The Malaysian Insider.Kelantan state Exco, Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan denied the news on the day of its publication, said several reports.A police report was lodged by an official from the Conference of Rulers last week. Following that, the arrests were then made earlier this week as Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the police seek to investigate the portal.The three editors from The Malaysian Insider, Lionel Morais, Zulkifli Sulong, and Amin Iskandar, had left the Dang Wangi police station in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday night.According to lawyer Syahredzan Johan’s latest tweet, Ho and Jahabar have been released on police bail this morning.Jahabar Sadiq and Ho Kay Tat have been released on police bail.
