iflix's Donovan Castillo-Mohlman heads to The Story Lab

The Story Lab, Dentsu Aegis Network’s entertainment content arm, has named Donovan Castillo-Mohlman (pictured: right) as president of The Story Lab Asia Pacific, effective immediately. He succeeds Shuntaro Tanaka, who will step down as President and move to Dentsu Inc. in Japan after successfully launching the business across the region.Tanaka previously held the dual role of COO of Dentsu Media Vietnam and head of The Story Lab for South East Asia, before taking on the Asia Pacific (APAC) leadership in February last year. The Dentsu veteran started his career at the agency's TV Division back in 1997 and handled major Japanese clients and global brands such as Coca-Cola and McDonald’s. He's also well known for bringing the popular Japanese television format ‘Ninja Warrior’ to Europe and ASEAN back in 2015.His replacement, Castillo-Mohlman reports to Sunil Yadav (pictured: left) who is president of Amplifi Asia Pacific, as well as Michael Iskas, global president of The Story Lab. Prior to his new role, Castillo-Mohlman was global director of content strategy at iflix and has worked extensively with international broadcasters such as NBCUniversal, AMC Networks International and Fox Broadcasting as well as local broadcasters StarTV and Mediacorp.In this new role, he will be responsible for leading The Story Lab brand across Asia Pacific, driving initiatives in content investment, development, distribution and marketing, collaborating closely with producers, media owners and brands in the region. He will also focus on cross-market collaboration and expanding The Story Lab’s regional footprint.With over 18 years of global entertainment and management experience in the content industry, Castillo-Mohlman's international experience includes content acquisition, commissioning original productions, content consumption data analytics, content development strategy, managing global distribution rights, channel branding and creative development.“Strengthening the content capability is a key focus for our group and Castillo-Mohlman is a great asset to lead The Story Lab in Asia Pacific. With his vast experience in content acquisition and original productions across digital, VOD, and broadcast platforms, he is best-placed to accelerate the growth of The Story Lab as a unique proposition for our clients and distribution partners,” Yadav said.Castillo-Mohlmann added, “With tablets and mobile driving even shorter screen dwell-time, it has become more important for distribution channels to have engaging content.[...].I look forward to further strengthening our content capabilities across the region through the design of new, innovative models that create value for both advertisers and broadcasters for this new age of marketing.”
