Chinese tech giant Huawei has joined the celebrity advertising bandwagon by naming actress Jasmine Curtis-Smith as its first brand ambassador for the Philippines.
Smith and her involvement with the “Make It Possible” campaign was introduced to the press on Wednesday during the launch of new devices timed for the Christmas season. It includes a limited edition “kitty pink” Huawei Ascend P6, four Ascend android phones, two seven-inch phablets, an LTE mobile WiFi modem and a WiFi repeater/extender.
Make it Possible, spearheaded by Saatchi & Saatchi Shanghai, is a branding campaign first unveiled during the 2013 Mobile World Conference held at Barcelona, Spain last February in an attempt to close the marketing gap with current market leaders Samsung and Apple.
In an earlier release, Huawei said that the campaign will be launched in select markets and will encompass such touch-points as retail experiences, online activities, and media engagement.
From previously being unranked, Huawei is currently the third largest mobile phone maker in the world, according to third quarter data from the IDC. It currently has 3.8% market share, a 76.5% increase year-on-year. Samsung currently has the lion’s share with 81.2%, followed by Apple with 33.8%
