Groupon goes with Epic PR

Group buying site Groupon has appointed Epic Public Relations as its PR agency of record until March next year.The agency was appointed following a referral and work has already begun. The appointment would be for the local market.Earlier last year, Groupon opened its first physical store in Singapore at Suntec City for  goods to be redeemed at the store.The shop has both computer terminals and Apple iPads for customers visiting the store to look up deals and print them on the spot. The store also allows for customers to have a feel of the products before the purchase process.Epic Public Relations was unable to comment on the details of the win but it is known that the appointment is only for the local market.The agency whilst promoting Groupon will also assist with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) which Groupon has associated with to launch a daily deal across Southeast Asia to support school meals programmes.Until 5 April 2013, Groupon will call on the general public to help provide a child with WFP school meals for four weeks and with a monthly ration to take home. All donations go directly to WFP's School Meals Programmes, implemented in 14 countries in Asia, including five countries in Southeast Asia.Epic Communications is led by ex-head of media relations and corporate affairs at Levi Strauss & Co Asia Pacific, Mylinh Cheung (pictured) and the agency was launched in October last year, shortly after she exited the denim brand company.
