Former Octopus CEO takes senior role with South China Media

Former CEO of Octopus Prudence Chan is stepping into the media business as deputy chief executive of South China Media.Chan who famously resigned from Octopus after the company was found to have made millions by sharing cardholders' data with business partners, steps into the publishing company from mid-2014.She will succeed South China Media CEO Jessica Ng, who will assume the position of joint vice chairman, along with vice chairman William Lo. Ng said Chan will be responsible for the management of SCM’s operations and business, as well as work alongside herself and the board of directors on the group’s corporate strategy and development. “With her extensive experience, we believe that she will be an asset to the group,” Ng said. In addition to Octopus, Chan has held senior positions in the telco sector at Cable & Wireless HKT and Smartone, as well as in the consumer payment system sector as country manager of Visa International.
