Facebook launches Lite version with less data usage on Android

Facebook has introduced Facebook Lite, a new version of Facebook for Android that uses less data and works across all network conditions.According to Facebook, the app is less than 1MB to accommodate quick downloads. It includes Facebook’s core experiences like News Feed, status updates, photos, notifications and more.Facebook Lite aims to support “more than a billion people around the world access Facebook from a range of mobile devices on varying networks,” Vijay Shankar, product manager for Facebook Lite, said in a statement.Primarily for Android phone users who may experience slow network, Facebook Lite was built to support all of its functionality found in Facebook for Android.Facebook is rolling out Facebook Lite in countries across Asia, and over the coming weeks Facebook Lite will be available in parts of Latin America, Africa and Europe.Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said, "We built Facebook Lite to be faster, more reliable and very data efficient even when internet bandwidth is at a minimum.”“We’re going to keep working to serve the entire world, and we'll keep building tools for people in every community until we're all connected,” Zuckerberg added.
