Expedia’s martial arts–inspired TVC pokes fun at Chinese romance

In a new martial arts–inspired TV commercial, Expedia has put a fun twist on a renowned classic Chinese romance novel The Return of the Condor Heroes (神鵰俠侶).Inspired by the martial arts fiction, the 30 seconds TV spot puns on "condor", of which Cantonese pronunciation resembles "deal" in English.https://vimeo.com/144446517The campaign continues to feature Tat Gor (達哥), a famed local actor who featured in Expedia's previous TV campaign in May, as the main character of the novel."The last TV commercial with Tat Gor was a success in terms of discussion rate on social media, organic growth and online transaction," June Tsang, marketing manager of Expedia Hong Kong, told Marketing.Tsang said the decision on selecting someone to front the brand went through a careful selection process."A successful KOL (key opinion leader) does not only mean a huge number of fans, but also the engagement rate with fans. It's about quality, not quantity."She noted that the best way to fully leverage the impact of a celebrity was to weave his character in the campaign - which in this case is the slang invented by Tat Gor.Check out the teaser that garnered more than 200,000 views in four days. 約定你電視前等~Posted by Expedia on Thursday, October 29, 2015Credit Client: ExpediaAgency: Secret Tour Hong KongCreative director: Jennifer Yip, Stephen ChungSenior art director: Susan ChanAssociate art director: Hazel WongCopywriting: Jay NgProduction: Anthony Fu, Off Lo Hi
