Last Friday was most definitely a night to remember as members of Malaysia’s advertising community celebrated and partied the night away at the fourth annual Advertising + Marketing Agency of the Year, with TBWA\Group Malaysia claiming the Overall Agency of the Year 2013 award.
The win was undisputable, with the agency taking home two Gold (for Direct and Event Marketing Agency of the Year) and two Silver awards (Creative Agency of the Year and Brand Consultancy of the Year).
Last year’s champion, Arc Worldwide / Leo Burnett Malaysia put up a strong defence of their title, retaining Gold for Public Relations Agency of the Year, and securing Silver for Direct Marketing Agency of the Year.
M&C Saatchi was one of the night’s dark horses, taking away Gold for Digital and Bronze for Creative Agency of the Year.
Saatchi & Saatchi Arachnid, which operated as an independent during the evaluation period, managed to retain their Local Hero title for Creative Agency of the Year. They also took away Local Hero for Digital Agency of the Year.
In the Media Agency of the Year category, Mindshare held off a strong suite of competitors to take their unblemished record to four years in that category. Not far behind were OMD and PHD with Silver and Bronze respectively.
Twenty seven campaign-based MARKies were also given out, with TBWA\ Group Malaysia winning the Overall Creative Ideas MARKie, and UM claiming the Best Use of Media MARKie.
UM Malaysia laid claim to their trophy after sweeping six of the eleven MARKies’ ‘Best Use of Media’ categories, including Best Use of TV, and Best Use of Print and Best Use of Social.
Some of the other big winners at the MARKies included Alpha 245, Mindshare and Vizeum Media Services.
The Agency of the Year Awards 2013 also gave recognition to a newly set-up local shop whom Advertising + Marketing‘s editorial board believes will make a splash in the industry soon. After no nominee was awarded the title last year, the honour for this year’s The Next Big Thing went to The Greatest Hits.
The Agency of the Year Awards 2013 was sponsored by Ford, HISTORY, Lifetime and the Sun and supported by partners, Active Network, Forever Young Group, Freeflow Productions, Pernod Ricard and Tiger Beer. A total of 21 senior client-marketers hailing from various industries and marketing backgrounds judged the entries for both the Agency of the Year and MARKies categories this year.
