Etika named marketer of the year 2016 at #MEAMalaysia

Beverage giant Etika (formerly Permanis) stole the show for the second consecutive time, and was honoured as Marketer of the Year at the fourth annual Marketing Excellence Awards tonight.

In front of over 300 of Malaysia’s leading marketers at the Aloft Sentral Kuala Lumpur, Etika took home awards for its innovative campaigns for brands such as Mountain Dew, Wonda and Goodday brands.

Etika’s trophy tally included four gold (Excellence in Media Strategy, Excellence in Out-Of-Home Advertising, Excellence in Integrated Marketing (Consumer) and Excellence in Brand Awareness) five silver (Excellence in Media Strategy, Excellence in Marketing Innovation, Excellence in Brand Strategy, Excellence in Print Advertising and Excellence in Advertising) and three bronze awards (Excellence in Integrated Marketing (Consumer), Excellence in Print Advertising and Excellence in Advertising).

The “It Doesn’t Exist Until You Do it” campaign for Mountain Dew impressed the elite jury, who scored it highly in the areas of media strategy, integrated marketing, brand awareness, print advertising and more.

The multi-channel initiative focused on co-creation, and provided platforms for young Malaysians to showcase their creativity by allowing them to create Mountain Dew advertising. This included a billboard designed by a graffiti artist, self-directed radio spots and new packaging designs.

Mountain Dew fulfilled its aim of battling against the challenges of the declining beverage industry and standing out in the pricing war among competitors with their unconventional approach.

Voted in second place was the 2014 champion Unilever Malaysia for its campaigns for the Rexona, Breeze, Dove and Fair & Lovely brands taking home three gold awards (Excellence in Marketing Innovation, Excellence in Direct Marketing and Excellence in Mobile Marketing), three silver (Excellence in Event Marketing, Excellence in Marketing to a Female Audience and Excellence in Social Media Marketing), and one bronze in Excellence in Experiential Marketing.

Other top scoring brands included BSN Malaysia, GlaxoSmithKline, Carlsberg Malaysia and Telekom Malaysia. All 2016 entries were judged by a panel of marketing experts from brands including AirAsia, F&N, Samsung and U Mobile.

A total of 100 trophies were awarded to the best campaigns of the year and with over 400 entries, 2016 was the biggest Marketing Excellence Awards yet.

According to Rezwana Manjur, editor of Advertising + Marketing Magazine “The Marketing Excellence Awards celebrates the fiercest and bravest marketers in the Malaysian industry and brand marketers who are able to stay not only ahead of competition, but on-par with their customers’ changing values and demands.”
