Channel NewsAsia launches Hanoi branch

Mediacorp subsidiary and regional news broadcaster Channel NewsAsia(CNA) has opened a branch in Hanoi, Vietnam.Tan Quiyi, CNA’s Vietnam correspondent, will be heading the Hanoi team of three, which also includes a production assistant and a cameraman. Tan has been reporting in Vietnam since December 2014.A spokesperson for CNA explained, “By having a resident correspondent in Hanoi, we have someone who can stay with the stories and give authentic accounts of events as compared to a reporter who parachutes in for brief moments.”Meanwhile, Debra Soon, head of news and premier, MediaCorp, said: “With our bureau in place here in Hanoi, we are extending our capability to report with depth and integrity. This is what the channel stands for, to create better understanding of Asia and what it has to offer the world.”
