Waggener Edstrom Communications (WE) has named industry veteran Christopher Millward as general manager for its China operations. He will report to senior vice president Matt Lackie, who oversees WE’s Asia Pacific presence, and work closely with other leadership in the region including Beijing general manager Jason Cao, Shanghai VP and general manager Cathleen Witter, and Emma Richards, Hong Kong VP and general manager.Millward has worked with several of the world’s top public relations agencies including Edelman and Weber Shandwick and a host of multinational companies including most recently Lenovo Mobile, Turkish Airlines, Bayer AG, Procter & Gamble, and IBM. He takes over for Antoine Calendrier, who had been overseeing China from his home base in Hong Kong. Calendrier will work closely with Millward during this final changeover period.“In today’s business environment, we need to deliver global impact for our clients. The most effective communications campaigns are customized to local markets, which requires deep knowledge of those audiences,” said Melissa Waggener Zorkin, CEO and founder of Waggener Edstrom. “These two moves increase our already strong expertise and insight in the market. Chris Millward is a respected expert in China, bringing with him extensive experience working with government bodies throughout the greater China and Asia region in addition to his extensive integrated communications experience." In the last year, WE-APAC brought on Qatar Airways, Skype, and Johns Hopkins, expanding their client portfolio for Consumer, Technology, and Healthcare, three of the four key sectors where WE specializes.WE's business partner Buchan began as an affiliate in it’s Global Alliance Network in 2007; and in 2011, the agency made an equity investment in the firm to help solidify its global footprint. WE also holds an equity stake in South Korean agency Shout and has an extensive network of 34 affiliates worldwide.
