Chinese propaganda video on South China Sea debuts in Times Square

The controversy about China’s sovereignty over the South China Sea is heating up, a propaganda video declaring the country’s position debuts in one of the prime selling spots – New York Times Square.The 192-minute video tells the story of how China being the first to discover, name and explore the South China Sea, as well as emphasising the country’s sovereignty and jurisdiction over the territory and relevant waters.The ad space was estimated to have cost between $300,000 (2 million RMB) to $400,000 (2.6 million RMB) a month, according to Shanghaiist.The video also called in a variety of foreign officials and experts to comment on the dispute, blaming the South China Sea arbitration released by the Hague Tribunal is “illegal”.This comes after the release of Hague Tribunal ruling which denied China's claims over South China Sea.From 23 July to 3 August, the video is playing in New York Times Square 120 times everyday.
