Real estate company CapitaLand has announced an exclusive partnership with electronics company Samsung to launch prototype smart home ideas in Singapore.Using some of its serviced apartments as testbeds, CapitaLand is collaborating with Samsung to jointly develop Internet-of-Things ready smart solutions customised for Ascott’s serviced residences.According to a media release by CapitaLand’s wholly-owned serviced residence business unit The Ascott, the apartment units will offer guests a seamless smart living experience. In these smart home prototypes, guests will be able to control and manage devices within the residence through a single application which connects personal and home devices — from refrigerators and washing machines to smart TVs, smartphones and even wearable devices — through an integrated platform and server.Guests can customise settings on their mobile devices or smart TV to control one or multiple devices simultaneously and wirelessly. For instance, the smart devices can turn on the lights and heat up a coffee pot according to guests’ preferences.CapitaLand aims to launch its smart homes at its selected Ascott serviced residences by the first half of 2016, with plans to roll out to its properties across over 20 countries globally in phases.According to Tony Soh, chief corporate officer, The Ascott Limited (Ascott), the company sees innovation as one of its key business thrusts, as it continues to explore and introduce new technologies and ideas to enhance the guest experience.Regarding CapitaLand’s partnership with Samsung, Soh told Marketing, “We are now elevating our innovation efforts to another level by working with like-minded partners with cutting edge technology, products and processes. One good example is our exclusive partnership with Samsung, one of the world’s biggest electronics companies.  We will work with Samsung to jointly develop Internet of Things-ready solutions customised for Ascott’s serviced residences to offer guests a smart living experience.”CapitaLand has also set up an Innovation Hub in Singapore to test new technology, working closely with Samsung to design hospitality solutions.
