ATV’s executive director James Shing Pan-yu (pictured) has resigned, two days before an deadline to resign was set by Communications Authority. The announcement, released on Saturday, states that the broadcast company has officially received Shing’s resignation with immediate effect. The resignation came after the authority’s investigation report on 23 August revealing that Shing breached licensing terms by allowing majority investor Wong Ching, who is also his relative, to meddle in ATV daily operations. The authority warned Shing to step down before the official deadline today."Even if he appeals in accordance with Section 34 of the Broadcasting Ordinance, he would still have to follow the directions of the Communications Authority - in other words, he cannot be an executive director as of Monday next week," said secretary for commerce & economic development Gregory So via a statement.Shing will be succeeded by Louie King-bun, former executive editor- in-chief of Chinese newspaper Ta Kung Pao.
