Hong Kong – World War Z had its premier last night and aside from the seat-gripping storyboard and theatre-trembling sound effects, the audience couldn't help but raise an eyebrow to one scene in particular. When United Nations hero Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt) finds his way around the zombies he decides to pry open a vending machine for a drink. What do we see? A stack full of Pepsi (though he doesn't drink one).Perhaps viewers are more aware of shameless product placement after learning Man of Steel pulled in US$160 million in ad placements. Here's a list of the most unapologetic, in-your-face product placements in Hollywood’s movie-making history anyway.1. Cast AwayTaking number one in our charts was Cast Away with Tom Hanks making monologues and repeated visual references to his only companion on the island: Wilson Sporting Goods.   2. Sex in the CityHow can the four girls be glamourous and fabulous without the help of Louis Vuitton, Chanel or Vivienne Westwood (to name but a very few)?3. The Italian JobWhat did Matt Damon travel in? BMW’s Mini Cooper, which apparently can go through the tiniest alleys in all of Italy.4. TransformersIt’s a movie but also a three-hour long ad for GM,  Volkswagen Beetle (the original Bumblebee), Chevrolet Camaro (the evolved Bumblebee), Pontaic, GMC and Hummer.5. Happy GilmoreAdam Sandler the Subway employee was wearing a Subway uniform and eating a Subway sandwich and was talking to girl who’s drinking from a Subway cup – can’t get more obvious here.6. The InternshipThe story is about Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson working as interns at the search company. Do we hear free advertising?7. Harold and KumarWhite Castle, white castle, white castle (a fast food chain in the States)!8. E.TThe early 1980s production was perhaps one of the first few blockbusters to reap in the big bucks for product placement. Elliott use Hershey’s Reese’s Pieces to lure the alien.9. Toy’s StoryWhile most of the toys came after the movie, Etch-A-Sketch appeared a number of times.10. Wayne’s World While this was a parody of product placements in movies. In one scene – and on one table alone, almost – we see Pepsi Cola, Mountain Dew, Reebok and Pizza Hut.
